Wildspaces August '24

  • Jefferson, CO, 80456 United States (map)

For August, we’ll be moving to another new location in Pike National Forest. The sites are just south of Jefferson, CO at the bottom of Kenosha Pass. This area includes an expansive Offroad playground know generally as the Tarryall OHV Area.

Access to the site is a short 10 minute drive off 285. Most of the road is just a smooth secondary dirt road, but it does turn steep and bumpy just before the campsite. There are very few rocks on the road, but it’s is steep and has some rolling dirt sections that require drivers of low clearance vehicles to pick specific lines to make sure not to scrape undercarriage. I saw 2 stock F150s with running boards and road tires make it up this steep section, but there were 2 Subaru Forrester’s at the bottom of the hill that did not attempt the climb. With proper spotters and a good driver, I think we could get a lower clearance vehicle up this section.

There are multiple sites in the area if a backup is needed. There are 2 really nice spots at the top of this mountain, both with camp fire rings, and both with great views of the Kenosha Moutains and the Mosquito Range. If people want to arrive earlier in the weekend, I think there are enough spots in the area to handle a layover ahead of Sunday.
